Ahali Elephants
Our
Mission
Ahali
Elephants (Tax ID# 43-1916863) is the first nonprofit
501(c)(3) volunteer powered organization working exclusively
to identify, monitor and assist captive elephants
living alone or in inadequate conditions in North
America. By facilitating their relocation and long-term
care at The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee, a natural
habitat refuge on 2,700 acres, we make it possible
for elephants to once again walk the earth with dignity.
Organizational
History
Ahali
Elephants, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was
founded in 2001 by a small group of individuals, who
adopted Flora with the mandate to locate a permanant
home where she could live out her life freely with
other African elephants.
Once
Flora had been adopted, Ahali relocated her from the
circus to Miami's MetroZoo, where she could be with
other African elephants. Flora resided in Miami for
nearly two-years, while Ahali executed a global search
for the ideal elephant-retirement home.
After two years of searching, Ahali Elephants had
found a healthy environment for Flora to live out
the remainder of her life, the 2,700 acre Elephant
Sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tennessee.
To
fund Flora's retirement, Ahali established Flora’s
Endowment Fund
to raise the $200,000 needed to provide for her expenses
at The Elephant Sanctuary.
